The World Wide Web has completely changed the way individuals and companies consider carrying on their businesses. Totally new financial opportunities have opened up and with the continuous growth in the number of people accessing the internet, so too have the ways in which money can be made online; increasingly, we hear of people (and some organisations) supplementing their income using these methods. A few of these are mentioned below:

• Affiliate Marketing – This is the process by which a person is monetarily compensated for using his or her own efforts to direct customers to a particular web site using his blog site or other marketing tools.
• Blogs – Another potential money spinner, especially for individuals who maintain topical, relevant and regularly updated blogs that are very well designed.
• Freelancing – Individuals who have special capabilities can make a lot of online money by writing, filling up forms, researching, drawing, teaching ….. the list is literally endless!
• Lead Generation and List Building – Money can also be made online by generating leads to particular sites as well as by selling email and physical addresses to clients who have products to sell. As in niche marketing, income is more remunerative if the leads and lists are customised to fit the product to the set of customers who are most likely to purchase that product.
• Online Selling and Trading – Any product sold or traded over the internet by its very definition generates funds. The item could be a service, information, ideas or have a physical form. With its global reach, the internet in many cases is the most appropriate and efficient way to get the item across to the customer. E-learning, BPOs, KPOs, IT and ITeS have all developed and reached the level of sophistication seen today – something that was not even on anyone’s radar 10 years back!
• Starting a Store – Amazon.com, eBay, etc. are great examples of building or using a store to make money online. Now that there are thousands of such stores available on the internet and competition is extremely severe, the trick is to build and maintain niche stores, catering to special interest groups.
• Web Designing – Good content, advertising, digital entrepreneurship, etc can be very rewarding for people who have a passion for and are adept at designing web sites for others.

There are a host of companies and organisations who offer their services or who can be used as conduits to make money online. Among those not mentioned above are Infolinks, Adbrite, Build a Niche Store, Yahoo Merchant Solutions, Azoogleads, Associated Content, Cafepress, eefoof, Ether, Google, eLance, LinkShare, H3.com, Microsoft Adcenter, Pay Per Post, etc.

Of course, there are some other, more disreputable ways of making money online that include internet fraud, online gambling and prepaid porn.

You really have to be there and try your own hand out to realise the possibilities of making money online. The advantages of being your own master, working to your own schedule and making good to excellent money sitting at home, office or while on the move is a heady mixture not to be sneezed at!
